Field Stone Walls
A field stone wall gives the heart and soul an instant feeling of warmth and nostalgia, and the older it is, the more we love them. They truly go with any interior style in any room, from modern to rustic classical. Up until now field stone has been an expensive and difficult project to install, but that has all changed with our new thin field stone tiles. You can get that wonderful rich feel of a real old field stone wall in just a few days and only add a 1/2” thickness to your existing walls.
How is it sold?
The tiles are sold in boxes with 4 tiles per box and each tile measures 14” high by 18” wide and each tile is 1.75 square feet. To figure the square footage you would need, you would use the formula below. Each box of 4 tiles will cover 7 square feet. Price includes shipping.
Price per tile $43.75
Price per box $175.00 (price includes shipping, ships with UPS ground)
Price per pallet $2480 (price includes shipping, ships with common carrier)
How many tiles do I need for my project?
To determine the amount of tiles you would need to purchase for your project you would use the following formula.
Height of wall____(inches) x the length of wall ____(inches) = total square inches.____
Then divide the total square inches____ by 144 and you get your total square feet of your wall.
For the amount of boxes you would need to order, each box has 7 square feet in it, so divide the number of square feet you need by 7 and that is the number of boxes to order. If you need 8 or more boxes, you would order a pallet for 8 boxes.
Example of doing just one wall in a room with no door and one window: 96” high wall x 120” long = 11,520 divided by 144 = 80 square feet. So you would need 80 square feet
You will want to add a little extra for waste, usually 5% to 10%. You can also deduct for windows and doorways if there are a lot of doors and windows as that space will not be tiled.
What you get?
14” x 18” concrete tiles
Sand mortar mix with mixing instructions is included in the cost and we give you the amount you should need based on the square footage you have purchased. The color of the mortar is the color shown in the photographs above.
How is it installed?
Just like any tile, it is applied to the wall with a latex fortified thinset. Once the thinset sets up after 24 hours you can apply your mortar to fill in the joints between the tiles. See our how to install video for the steps to install coming to our “Installs” page.
What else would I need to buy?
If you are planning on doing the project yourself, you would need to buy a latex fortified tile thinset. You would be applying the thinset at about an 1/8” thickness. The bag of thinset should tell you the square footage that it will cover for that thickness.
50 lbs Latex polymer fortified thinset
Tile sponges (at least 2)
5 gallon buckets (at least 2)
1/4” x 1/4” notched tile trowel
6 mill plastic to cover your floor
2” wide blue tape
These tiles cannot be used for floor tiles as they are too thin.
